Car Insurance Sterling (Car Insurance). Peugeot 206 wind noise at high speeds?

Peugeot 206 wind noise at high speeds? I have a 2001 Y reg Peugeot 206 1.1 For the past 4 or 5 months, I've been experiencing what sounds like wind noise/screeching when driving over 60mph but it tends to worsen when the weather is particularly windy. Sometimes it's intermittent and only makes the noise for a second at a time, but along the journey, other times the noise is constant for sometimes up to a minute or so. At first I thought it was coming from the wing on the passenger side as I had it replaced late last year, but the noise seems to be coming more from the middle of the front of the car. I've checked all round the windows for gaps and have found nothing. I've noticed that on a couple of occasions when in slow moving heavy traffic, when the cooler fan kicks in, the fan has seemed to make a similar noise to what I'm experiencing when driving on the motorway. This noise is driving me mad as I do quite a bit of driving on the motorway, I can hear it over the radio as it's quite loud. It's also quite unnerving as there's obviously something not right somewhere, I just can't figure out what it is.

Most likely to be the cooling fan, air pressure when moving will spin the fan even if it's not switched on a screeching sound is sometimes the water pump bearing, which is not affected by the wind.

Sterling . How to Fix Rust

Any object made of metal is at risk of developing rust at some point. Rust occurs when moisture invades the outer coating of metal and reacts with oxygen to corrode it. Rust is extremely corrosive and can actually eat holes through metal in very little time. Whether the rust appears on a car, truck, camper, or some other metal item around your home, removing it immediately is the key to preventing further damage.
Difficulty:Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Sand paper
Rust neutralizer
Paint

Step by Step :
1
Sand the rusted area of the metal until all of the rust is removed. You will see shiny, silver metal underneath once all the rust is gone.
2
Apply a rust neutralizer to the area where the metal is rusted. (These products are available anywhere automotive or hardware supplies are sold.) Seal the metal to prevent rust from reappearing.
3
If the area of rust is large, check on the reverse side of the metal to make sure the rust has not eaten all the way through. If you see any discoloration or rust on the reverse side, remove it as well, and treat with the rust neutralizer.
4
If the metal item can be painted, paint it to seal it from moisture and prevent additional rusting. A clear coat paint or gloss is also effective at preventing rust on metal objects.
Tips & Warnings
Treat rust as soon as it first appears to prevent extensive damage.

Sterling . How to Sand and Prime Your Car Yourself

Painting your car yourself can save you a bundle of money. However painting a car is a little more complicated than painting a wall or chair, but the most important part of the painting process still holds true. Prep work, sanding and priming can separate a good paint job from a bad one. Here is a little advice on how to prep and prime your car right.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Electric Sander(random orbit/palm)
Sand Paper (100 grit)
Painters Tape
Newspaper
Soap
Water
Brush
Auto Body primer(spray cans)

Step by Step :
1
Wash your car. Even though you are going to be sanding and making a mess, you don't want to rub dirt into your car when your sanding. Large particles can cause permanent damage to the metal.
2
Sand off as much of the old paint as possible. Make sure to remove any gloss and pieces of peeling paint. If all the gloss isn't removed the primer will eventually peel off.
3
Wash all of the paint dust from your car. Make sure you dry any exposed metal, being unprotected it will rust very quickly.
4
When the car is completely dry, tape off any part of you car you do not want to get paint on. Cover the windows and other large areas with newspapers attached by tape on the edges.
5
Spray the car evenly with the primer. Hold the can about a foot and a half away from your car to get a even coat and avoid drips. Be sure to cover ever inch of the car so you don't have to go back.
6
Remove and dispose of all tape and newspaper. Do not try to touch up the primer after it has dried. Doing this will turn the primer a different color and stick out if you do not plan on painting it immediately.
Tips & Warnings
Make sure when you paint you are outside or in a well ventilated area. Paint fumes can be deadly.

Does the pedal stay firm when you continue applying pressure, or does it seem to sink slowly to the floor? If the pedal sinks, your master cylinder may be defective, and that's unsafe. 2. Drive around the block, stopping every now and then (but without driving the people behind you crazy). Notice how much effort is required to bring your car to a stop. If you have ordinary self-adjusting brakes, the pedal should stop more than 3 inches from the floor. If you have power brakes, the pedal should stop an inch to an inch and a half from the floor. If your vehicle has power brakes and stopping it seems to take excessive effort, you may need a new power booster. 3. If you feel that your brakes are "low" (that the pedal goes down too far before the vehicle stops properly), pump the brake pedal a couple of times as you drive around. Does the pedal now stop higher up? If so, a brake adjustment is probably in order — or you may just need more brake fluid. Check the brake fluid level by following the instructions in "Checking your master cylinder," later in this chapter. '>art'"" keeping ^our Car m Good Condition, System by System If the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder is low, buy the proper brake fluid for your vehicle (see "Flushing and Changing Brake Fluid" later in this chapter for tips) and add fluid to the "Full" line on your master cylinder. Check the fluid level in the cylinder again in a few days. If it's low, check each part of the brake system, following the instructions in this chapter, until you find the leak, or have a brake specialist find it and repair it for you. If you find that you're not low on fluid and if you can't adjust them yourself, drive to your friendly service facility and ask them to adjust your brakes. After that, the pedal shouldn't travel down as far before your car stops. Disc brakes self-adjust and should never need adjusting. however, have self-adjusting mechanisms that should keep the drum brakes properly adjusted. If any of the self-adjuster components on drum brakes stick or break, the drum brakes won't adjust as they wear out, resulting in a low pedal. 4. As you drive around, notice how your total brake system performs. Ask yourself these questions: • Does the vehicle travel too far before coming to a stop in city traffic? If it does, your brakes need adjusting or you need new brake linings.

• Does the vehicle pull to one side when you brake? On vehicles with front disc brakes, a stuck caliper can cause this problem. On older vehicles with front drum brakes, a wheel cylinder may be either leaking or stuck. I explain how to check disc and drum brakes in the section called "Getting at Your Brakes" later in this chapter. • Does your brake pedal pulsate up and down when you stop? Does your steering wheel shake when you brake? If so, and you have disc brakes, your front brake rotors need to be machined or replaced. A pulsating brake pedal is usually caused by excessive lateral run-out (mechanic-speak for wobbling from side to side), which can happen because your brakes are overheating from overuse. Make sure that your rear brakes are working. If not, they could be causing your front brakes to work too hard and overheat.

• Do your brakes squeal when you stop fairly short? The squealing is a high-pitched noise usually caused by vibration. Squealing can occur when the brake linings are worn and need replacement, the drum or rotor needs to be machined, the front disc brake pads are loose or missing their anti-rattle clips, the hardware that attaches the brake calipers is worn, or inferior brake linings are in use. Totally eliminating a squeal can be difficult. When you open your brakes to check them, make sure that your rotors or drums aren't badly scored or worn and that plenty of lining material is left. Also, .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings the brake pads on disc type brakes should fit properly into the caliper. xy k Some disc brake pads require special shims to eliminate squeal. If "^ you visit your local parts store, you'll probably see a product called Disc Brake Quiet. This sticky spray hardens to a rubber-like material. If you use it, make sure to spray it on the back of the brake pads — the metal part that rests against the caliper. Never

spray Disc Brake Quiet on the brake rotor or on the lining material that contacts the brake rotor. • Do your brakes make a grinding noise that you can feel hi the pedal? If so, stop driving immediately and have your vehicle towed home or to a repair shop. Further driving could damage the brake rotors or drums. Grinding brakes are caused by excessively worn brake linings.
